I am a retired teacher, mother of two adult kids, and live with my St. Bernard, Lola. I especially enjoy meeting new people, traveling, gardening, cooking, fashion, and of course writing. I have just recently been published for the fifth time in the “Chicken Soup for the Soul” series.
Like many people, once I reached the age of 40, I started to really think about the aspect of aging. I looked to my grandparents and my own parents to see what was in store for me, but my reality was considerably different than theirs. I was a widow in my early 30’s and I raised two children as a single parent. I also worked full time at a career; both my mother and grandmothers were stay at home moms. While working and raising kids, I went back to school to get my B.A. My life was filled with very different challenges.
As I aged, my lifestyle also changed. Instead of slowing down to a more relaxed pace, it actually took on a more active energy. The time that had been consumed by children and work was mine to do with as I pleased now, and because I had a comfortable pension, I could still afford to do many of the things that I could not do when I was younger with dependents.
This blog is to celebrate aging and all the possibilities that are still there to discover, and seize, and enjoy. Don’t let this wonderful phase of life pass you by.
